Okay, here is where things get really interesting. The “Extended Happy Box” occurs in TWO places (12 frets apart) on the fretboard.  Check it out…

In the key of A Major that we are using for all of our Major Pentatonic scale examples, the “Other Happy Box” only occurs once on the fretboard.  In certain other keys (C Major, for example) , it will appear in two octaves.   As you move the shapes around to various keys, you’ll see how it works.  Anyway, here is it’s position in A Major.

Now, let’s visualize the “Extended Happy Box” in both octaves, and the “Other Happy Box” on the same fretboard diagram…

As you can now see, becoming comfortable with just the “Happy Box” and the “Other Happy Box” allows you to improvise in the key of A Major from the 2nd fret all the way up to the 19th fret!!!  That is a lot of musical real estate, covered by just two simple shapes.   Remember, these patterns are movable to any key.  Have fun!!!
