Now that we have our “Extended Box”, we can look at something referred to as the Pentatonic “Tree”. It’s called the “Tree” because it branches out on either side of “The Box”. The “Tree” is a simple pattern that uses all the whole step distances in our “Extended Box”. Using finger slides, it allows you to easily navigate from the 3rd fret to the 10th fret and back. It’s a very simple way to cover a lot of fretboard territory, and it’s the first step in learning to connect areas of the neck seamlessly.
